3 Clever Ways to Add Natural Light to Your Home

It’s only natural (pun intended) that light is something we crave in our homes.

We all wish the world was made of nothing but south-facing homes, but sometimes the updated kitchen wins out over floor-to-ceiling windows. Natural light improves sleep, physical activity and quality of life, so it’s only natural (pun intended) that it’s something we crave in our homes. Here are 5 ways to fake natural light in your home.

1.Add Smart Bulbs – With products like the Philips Hue White Ambiance Starker Kit, you can adjust the lighting to simulate a warm candle light hue or even natural daylight. These smart bulbs can be managed by a normal wall switch or on your mobile device. You can even set a timer so that you switch the ambiance from daylight to candlelight after the sun sets.

2.Position Mirrors Correctly – Not only are mirrors a great way to make a room feel bigger, they also reflect light and brighten up any space. Position a mirror on a wall facing a window, or one at least perpendicular to reflect sunlight back into the nooks and crannies of any room.

3.Change to doors with windows – While adding windows to your home can require permits and a contractor, swapping out a solid wood door to one that has some glass elements in it can really brighten up your entry space. If you’re concerned about privacy, consider selecting frosted glass or adding a retractable window treatment.
